The Best Headlight Bulbs

The most commonly used types of vehicle lights in the market today is the halogen lights though there are other types of lights that are gaining popularity. Xenon and LED (Light-Emitting Diode) bulbs are some of the lights picking up fast. Here a comparison of the three options based on their performance, price and safety.

The Halogen Lights
The halogen lights make the greater percentage of the lamps that are present in the market and the ones that most consumer cars utilize. These bulbs compare to the incandescent lights and make use of heated tungsten filaments to emit light. These Headlights produce some significant amount of heat, and their performance can be greatly affected by small deposits of skin moisture when being replaced. The advantage of using this type of bulbs is that they have a long lifespan and their replacement costs are low.

Xenon Headlight Bulbs
Xenon lights, also called the High-Intensity Discharge (HID) lights, produce light that is brighter and emit less heat as compared to the halogen bulbs. The xenon headlights have a blue-white light that shines brightly and have a blinding effect on the drivers. The xenon lights use a large amount of power at the outset to emit their first burst of light, but once fully operational, they require much less energy to maintain constant brightness. They have an advantage in that they have a long lifespan and emit little heat. However, they are more costly that the halogen bulbs.

The LED headlights
The LEDs are the most recent innovation in the technology of lights. The LED lights do not use gas and filaments to produce light but rather use small diodes that emit light when an electric current excites their electrons. They use a little amount of power to work but do produce a significant amount of heat on the diode. They thus require heat control systems at the bottom of the headlight and near the car components. Incase the heat control system fails, this does affect not only the lighting but also other electronics. The LEDs have a small size meaning they can be formatted into any shape, and their light is naturally directional rather than diffuse. They is, therefore, a good choice for headlights.

You will notice that when it comes to the xenon and LED lights, they both produce a large pattern of light on the road but the halogens produce a small pool of yellow light directly in front of the car. If you are thinking of buying a new car, be sure that the premium option will be the LED lights. It is also good to ensure that your car repair shop is equipped and knows how to handle LED headlights replacements and repairs.
